Going On 14 Months
It's been a while, I got busy, up to my armpits with horses and a bit of travel and starting my video production business.
I went to Texas for a week to film a DVD and wondered how I would react to being back in the U.S. after a year in Mexico with all of my trials and tribulations here. I enjoyed my stay in Texas very much, but they can have the heat and humidity! I was indoors most of the time because the heat outside was unbearable.
It was wonderful to be able to speak English 24/7 and to have American food and I was treated to the best steak I've ever eaten in my life! I saw some longhorns too, and that was exciting. I also got to talk with a mounted policeman (see photos).
When I returned and crossed the border, boarding the bus back to Ensenada, my first thought was, "I'm home." So I guess Home really is where the heart is!
I am getting a better grip on the language, am almost able to read two consecutive sentences in a newspaper and understand them, and I was also bold enough to order a pizza over the phone and to write a letter to a coffee company. I always apologize for my Spanish in every communication but have found that people are very good and patient and willing to rephrase for me if I ask them to speak to me in "Espa~ol Basico."
One by one my English students have dropped off due to other financial obligations or relocation. One of my favorite students and her husband and little girl recently moved to Leon and I really miss them.
So far the summer has been very mild, not too awfully hot and we haven't had to use the fans, which really saves on the electricity bill!
I am now working with three other horses at the ranch besides my own, and that's always a lot of fun.
This sounds like a postcard. I guess that's what it is!
